Letter: On violence, decaying morals and gun control

Posted on Feb 20, 2013 - 12:25 PM Printer Friendly View

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

There are several factors that contribute to acts of violence.

In today’s society, we are dealing with decaying morals; children born out of wedlock, growing up with little or no supervision, and some with only one parent. Some of these children don’t even know who their father is and some of these mothers don’t know who fathered their child. The child doesn’t have a chance to become a productive member of society.

I think movie producers are partially responsible for the violence in our society. Almost every movie produced is full of violence. Young, immature minds are not able to understand that these actions are not normal and therefore not able to cope with this violence. Some computer games are violent. Children are challenged to kill the other guy in the game and this is not healthy.

Recently, there have been numerous senseless shootings. The suspects had/have mental disabilities and must not have access to weapons, period. There should be a method of assuring that these persons are prohibited from acquiring and/or using any weapon.

Four years ago, an anti-gun activist group celebrated the election of Barack Obama and Joe Biden by proclaiming, "Never in our nation’s history have we had an incoming president and vice president more supportive of strong gun laws." There are enough laws on the books now. Additional gun laws won’t accomplish anything. Our court system won’t even enforce the laws that are currently on the books.

I am in favor of our youth being trained and certified in the safe handling of guns by a certified firearms instructor. They also should be taught that they will be held accountable for their actions should they use a gun unsafely or unlawfully.

Let’s face it, our nation is decaying at a fast pace, thanks to our present administration. For gun enthusiasts, Obama and Biden our not our friends.

Stupidity is rampant in the news media and in Washington, D.C. The government wants to ban and make unlawful many semiautomatic guns, including the AR-15 model rifle, saying that it is an "assault weapon." Wrong. The definition of an assault weapon is one that has a selective firing mechanism that allows the shooter to select semi-auto or fully automatic fire. On these weapons, a folding stock, flash suppressor or a pistol grip has nothing to do with the firing function of this and other weapons. Remember, ignorance can be corrected by educating oneself, but stupidity can’t be corrected.

Some people are attempting to alter and perhaps totally destroy the Second Amendment that allows citizens the right to keep and bear arms. George Soros and Michael Bloomberg are spoiled, rich bullies using their wealth to fight for more gun control. Both of them are anti-Second Amendment. Despots! New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is totally anti-gun. Senator Chuck Schumer is an enemy of gun enthusiasts. This is my opinion about Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi. They are idiots that know nothing about guns. An idiot is defined as a feeble-minded person requiring complete custodial care; far left ultra-liberal nut cases, I believe.

O.K., gun enthusiasts. Call your Senator and Congressman and urge them not to vote for more gun legislation. I urge you to support the NRA; they are fighting for our rights.
