Letter: Losing respect of the greatest generation
Editor, Gazette-Journal:
The men and women of what is called "The Greatest Generation" were brought up with great respect for our nation, and were taught to read and appreciate our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. These men and women had a real passion and love for America and even though they didn’t want to leave their family and had no desire to die or to kill anyone else, they did love their country and what they accomplished is forever proof what this love for country can do. They did this without any guidance from the politically correct believers that exist now.
The so-called progressives on the left have zero love for America and even less for our Constitution and the values that grew from it. The issue of homosexuality is not new and has always existed in all societies. Our Bible, along with other faiths’ writings, identifies homosexuality as a sin, just as adultery and other weaknesses of humanity are. When some try to force the rest of society to accept what has always been known as wrong and even call what we know is right as wrong, we know that we are on dangerous ground and must not be silent. Our military punishes officers and others guilty of adultery, in the effort to support the necessary order and discipline required to do their job properly.
The left detests such order and discipline and has always pushed to weaken it. Their ideas of freedom would bring chaos to our nation because if followed all law would be individualized and of no value. In addition, if the cost of military health care today is large, accepting open homosexuality will take it over the top. AIDS and associated diseases became prevalent with the weakening of moral values. This is fact, not opinion. If the military continues on its path of bowing to the progressives on the left, our strength and ability to protect America will weaken even more. America has not become stronger following the progressives; we have lost much including the respect that our Greatest Generation won for us. We must not lose any more.
