Letter: Kudos for ‘Return to Hook’
On behalf of Ware Academy, I want to thank everyone involved in organizing and presenting "Return to the Hook." Warren Deal and his entire planning committee should all be commended for their well-organized and historical depiction of the 1781 Yorktown campaign. As a citizen of this county and as a Ware Academy staff member, I understand what makes this place special and we are all extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness history firsthand.
On the Friday before the official opening of the re-enactment, Ware Academy had four re-enactors visit to explain and depict life in the late 1700s. Our students were totally enthralled by the presentation from the members of the 64th British Regiment. These re-enactors combined an educational experience with the spirit of the weekend and successfully provided the key ingredients needed for a first-class educational experience for our students.
Gloucester County is extremely lucky to have citizens who care so deeply about both history and education. It is great to see citizens of our county go to such efforts to take the time and energy to perpetuate the "Land of the Life Worth Living." From an educator’s perspective, we are all grateful for your efforts.
