Letter: IRS should be ashamed
The IRS should be ashamed and if—and I say if—anyone pressured them to single out the Tea Party, they should be ashamed also. The story is not complete on why they did what they did, but bet your hat there will be plenty of speculation. Whatever the outcome, some will not be satisfied. Such is politics.
Freedom of speech is one of our most coveted freedoms, and while I quite often disagree with TP’ers, I welcome their right to express their opinion—for if they are silenced, we all can be. Free speech is not free for it does often come at a price. If the worst that happens to an organization is close scrutiny (a small price), I am sure they will continue to spread their message. IRS misbehavior should have been a distraction at most. That said, yes, heads should roll, whether it was lower-level workers or a push from above.
I do have one curious thought though: If you look at an anti-tax group’s members’ taxes closer than normal, is it singling out or profiling? Just a thought.
