Letter: Honoring ‘true American patriots’
I was very pleased to see the recent article in the Gazette-Journal with regard to the placement of an historic marker in Gloucester County commemorating the Women Air Service Pilots (WASPs). I grew up in Sweetwater, Texas, and for several years I lived at Avenger Field where the WASPs were trained during World War II. My late father operated a business there and Hangar One that housed his business is now the home of the National WASP World War II Museum. I am a charter member of the WASP Museum and would be most happy to share information about the museum with anyone who might be interested. Information can also be obtained at http://www.waspmuseum.org.
During my career as an Air Force pilot, I had occasion to meet and fly with some of these outstanding women who shared with me some of their amazing stories. My thanks go out to everyone who played a part in recognizing the contribution made by these true American patriots.
