Letter: Honoring our veterans
I wanted to thank you for the article written in the business section of last week’s edition on our participation in the nationwide "B&Bs for Vets" campaign, but need to clarify a few important details. Although we are donating our rooms for the Veterans’ Day promotion, the complimentary dinner for our guest vets and their significant others will be generously donated by Liz Scribe, owner of Sandpiper Reef Restaurant, and not paid for us, as stated in the article.
Liz has also graciously offered to host a wine and cheese reception at Sandpiper Reef in Hallieford on Veterans’ Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, from 5-6 p.m., where local vets are invited to meet and greet the guest vets visiting our area. Any local veterans that are interested in attending should contact Liz at the restaurant number, which is 725-3331 (please RSVP, so that we may plan accordingly). On Monday, Nov. 12, the veterans visiting our area will then be hosted by volunteers at the Mathews County Visitors Center with a brief reception to learn more about the area and its rich history.
We are very grateful to all who are working with us to create a memorable getaway to help honor our U.S. veterans, and encourage anyone interested in this program to go to http://www.betterwaytostay.com and click on the "B&Bs for Vets" icon for more information. Any other individuals or businesses that would like to contribute in some way towards the Mathews getaway for veterans can contact us at 725-5136.
