Letter: For Jones
The gentlemen vying to be elected as our representative are appreciated, as running for any office isn’t easy or simple, and for the one who wins, it will always be a challenge.
We attended the July 19 candidate forum, listened carefully, took notes and came away knowing that the person we wanted as our Republican candidate is Catesby Jones. His personal history, the values he respects, and his manner of speaking to all who were there told us he is the person for the job.
His answers to each question were quick and also examples of his preparedness and we especially enjoyed his response to hunting on Sundays. "I believe all of God’s creatures need a day of rest!" Well said, Mr. Jones.
But the clincher for us was his statement that he believes in term limits. Human nature will not change; even the best of us has weaknesses. But term limits would help by relieving our elected officials of the need to always be worrying about the next election.
It is not up to me to set these limits, but limits we do need and as soon as possible. I often wonder why anyone wants to spend their life in politics, but those that do have a responsibility to we who elect them. On Aug. 23, please cast your vote for Catesby Jones.
