Letter: FOP vice president endorses Barrick
Mathews County is a community that needs a professional and dedicated law enforcement professional in the office of sheriff. The members of the Fraternal Order of Police know that a community like Mathews needs a sheriff that will listen to the community, insure excellence in law enforcement services and be an active part in all aspects of the county.
Working hand-in-hand with the community, businesses and other state and federal government agencies to preserve the quality of life for Mathews County should be the primary focus of our sheriff’s office. Ladies and gentlemen, I have known Mark Barrick for the past 20 years and I can assure you he is that professional lawman that can achieve these goals for Mathews.
Mark impressed me the first time I met him 20 years ago. From that first day, my respect for him has only grown. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside him, fighting crime in Newport News and trying to improve the community we serve. Mark understands that law enforcement cannot do their job alone. It takes partnership and empowerment of the community to reach that goal. Staying in constant contact with the citizens and business owners of Mathews County and embracing their concerns and ideas for a safer county is paramount.
Let’s face it, the criminal element is changing and they are targeting communities like Mathews. Mark has the background and the characteristics to proactively deal with crime and insure that we do not turn a blind eye to coming problems.
I know Mark to be an honest and trustworthy person. He doesn’t just wish for a better world—he walks the walk and his actions make it a better world. He takes positive steps toward the goal. Mark is goal oriented and always strives to improve whatever assignment or task he takes on. Mark will make a great sheriff and a great leader for Mathews County.
Please listen to the men and women of law enforcement and vote for a leader, a listener and a lawman that will put Mathews first. Vote Mark Barrick for sheriff of Mathews County.
