Letter: Flower show received enthusiastic support
On behalf of the Garden Club of Mathews, we thank our community and neighboring counties for supporting our 81st Annual Flower Show this past weekend. It takes eight months to plan and execute the show, and having a large enthusiastic turnout makes the preparation worthwhile.
Our visitors enjoyed lingering over the arrangements in our expanded venue at Kingston Parish Chapel Hall. Garden Club members kept busy answering questions about the flower designs. The horticultural exhibit showing flowers grown in members’ gardens was popular as well, with many requests for explanation about growing conditions.
We appreciated the benefits of an expanded panel of judges this year, specifically Betty Wrenn Day of Mathews and Emily Barbee and Joan Jackson of Gloucester. We thank Teresa Stuart of "Flowers from the Heart" for donating the raffle prize as well as for her magnificent tribute to the victims of the Japanese tsunami and of the recent tornados in Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties.
Kingston Parish generously and graciously welcomed the show into their beautiful hall. All in all, we appreciate the overwhelming positive and generous comments about the Flower Show. To everyone who supported the Garden Club, we extend our heartfelt appreciation.
