Letter: Fire debris presents hazard to navigation
Who would have thought that a water-oriented area such as Mathews would set fire to a building without follow-up supervision?
Yes, that is exactly what those overseeing the county’s affairs did. A "supervised burn" was affected at the old East River Boat Yard. After the burn, it was and still is evident no follow-up supervision was in place.
Debris from the burning deck was observed for days in the East River as wind and tide broke it away from its original moorings. Even to the present, there is still material lodged in the pilings that can and will become a hazard to the boaters using the East River.
We need some new management.
