Letter: Fighting the terrible beast of childhood cancer

A vicious demon our children does stalk,
Its intention is death, like a circling hawk.
Terror and suffering is the name of its game,
Rich, poor, black or white, it treats all the same.
It does not take pity; it’s a merciless foe,
It attacks from the inside and kills as it grows.
How shall we fight this terrible beast,
Who children and maybe you will have for its feast?
Knowledge the weapon and prayer the cure,
But money is needed to make knowledge more sure.
Grease up your wallets and soften your hearts,
For with you, yes with you, is where the fight starts.
If your child was held in the jaws of this monster,
Is that what’d take for you to be a sponsor?
Please do not tarry and don’t hesitate,
For by then your money just might be too late.
They say time is money and money is time,
And with time and your money a cure we will find.
A shave for a haircut, it ain’t no big deal
For children to live, for children to heal.
Is love in your heart; is grace in your soul?
Well, get up, do your part, get up off of some gold.
This demon it lurks, perhaps stalking you,
And one day you may remember what today that you do.
I’ve grown to like my beard and it’s grown to like me. Got nothing on the roof, so it’s nice to have something to comb. Been nice and warm this cold winter, not to mention all the ugly it hides. But, if you people can get off a measly $2,500, I’ll shave it to help fight kids’ cancer.
If it was your kid, that amount would be nothing to save their life. If 25,000 people read this, that’s only 10 cents apiece. Whatever you can spare, share. Got no money? Get a shave. The life you save may one day be your own.
