Letter: Concerned over departure of animal control officer
We have lost the services of Ralph Horn, one of the most experienced animal control people around (25 years). He is highly respected and well liked—always there at any hour for all animals until the county decided to shift him to the sheriff’s department, where subsequently his hours were cut along with his benefits and his direct contact with the public. Recently he was shifted back to Mindy Moran’s area (County Administrator).
The lack of compassion for animals and wildlife by the supervisors and county administrator is appalling. It is part of the county’s stewardship to take care of them. Right under our very noses we had the best one we could have in charge of it until Ralph Horn was forced out. Shame on them. They have now stopped caring for all animals except for dogs and some cats.
They don’t have the brains to realize what a gem Ralph is. A great disservice has been done to the whole county and people should speak up. Election time is coming. Perhaps the county administrator should be elected and not appointed by the board. Beware of people who have no compassion for animals or wildlife.
