Letter: Community made Tour de Chesapeake a success
On behalf of the Tour de Chesapeake, I would like to thank the many volunteers and organizations who took part in this 16th annual event as well as the Mathews Visitor Center and Mathews Land Conservancy which have supported and encouraged this event for many years.
From the rest stops to the food to the entertainment to the activities provided, the cyclists couldn’t have had better! From the safety teams to the signage teams to the monitors, the cyclists couldn’t have been safer! From Tent City to the home hosts to the B&Bs to the Cottage Program, the cyclists couldn’t have been more comfortable and welcome!
Cleo Hayes, Boo Keels, and our great Mathews County School System, you are amazing and I thank you for letting me take over Thomas Hunter once again!
A very special thanks to Trey Sowers for providing the water taxi service, a very popular addition to this event!
A special thank you goes out to my executive committee: Amanda Taylor, Ann and Art Miller, Lori Dusenberry, Linda Moorman, Boo Schwartz and Rodney Rhodes. What an amazing group of talented people!
We couldn’t have done this event without our fantastic sponsors: Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Diana Burton of IsaBell K. Horsley Real Estate, Chesapeake Bank, and the Mathews Industrial Development Authority! Bless you!
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the residents of Mathews. I appreciate your patience and kindness to those visitors who came and enjoyed our lovely county for the day!
