Letter: Bringing back the bobwhite
Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Thanks to the property owners and their farmers of the quail recovery team for making the first fall program a successful event. By leaving crop strips standing, some very valuable "edges" are there for brood habitat.
Here it is March—thinking of spring. We hope you will consider planting a strip for quail brood habitat. We have packaged a mix of the recommended grasses and wildflowers. It is available at Brent & Becky’s. Each packet will plant the recommended minimum sized strip of 30’x100’. Guidelines for location, planting and maintenance are included. Hope you will participate.
Great additional information on quail recovery is available at http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/quail www.n,aturalresources.misstate.edu/wildlife/northern-bobwhite-quail.html and at http://www.bringbackbobwhites.org
