Letter: Bowditch has the qualities to lead
On Aug. 23, 2011, voters will have the opportunity to select the Republican candidate for the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. Put simply, Sherwood Bowditch has what it takes to represent the 98th District with a strong voice in Virginia’s General Assembly.
One of my favorite and most successful public servants of the modern era, Rudy Giuliani, presents six traits of good leaders in his books and lectures. These include: having strong beliefs, being an optimist, courage, relentless preparation, teamwork, and communication. Sherwood exhibits all six of these traits as seen through his hard work in the community.
As president of the Gloucester Boys and Girls Club, he chaired the capital campaign, raising a half million dollars to open one of the largest Boys and Girls Clubs in the nation. When Gloucester faced the wrath of Mother Nature earlier this year, it was Sherwood who worked tirelessly to make the services of the club available to unregistered children at no charge until the county sorted out its school issues.
Combine these traits with his Middle Peninsula roots, long-standing civic involvement and his desire to create jobs in the Middle Peninsula, and you have a model candidate. Please stand proud with me on Aug. 23 and vote Bowditch for the 98th District.
