Letter: Artifact day on Gwynn’s Island attracts 200+
On behalf of the Gwynn’s Island Museum and the Gwynn’s Island Civic League, I would like to thank all the people who brought Indian artifacts and fossils to the Civic League building on Aug. 6 for identification by a team of archeologists from the Smithsonian Institution led by Dennis Stanford, PhD. Over 200 people attended. Some very important artifacts were identified and are currently being evaluated by Dr. Stanford at the Smithsonian.
We invite you to see the Cinmar exhibit donated to the Gwynn’s Island Museum by the Smithsonian, which contains the historic artifacts that Dr. Stanford has been evaluating for the last two years.
I would also like to thank all those wonderful people on Gwynn’s Island who voluntarily provided meals and accommodations for the Smithsonian crew.
Finally, my heartfelt thanks to the Gazette-Journal for their continuous support to the museum since we opened in 1991.
Jean Tanner, director
