Letter: An outpouring of help for man’s best friends
Editor, Gazette-Journal:
At this time of Thanksgiving, I am privileged to thank the citizens and businesses of Virginia’s Middle Peninsula for their unwavering support of the Gloucester-Mathews-Middlesex Animal Shelter and the many homeless pets waiting with us for their new ‘forever’ homes. Were it not for the community’s gifts of food, supplies, funding and countless volunteer hours, we would not be able to open our doors each day to the possibility of finding new lives for these dear companion animals.
Although I am saddened to announce that I will be leaving the executive director’s position at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, I am confident in the spirit of hope and dedication that fuels the good works of the GMHS and transcends our inevitable, individual comings-and-goings. The staff, volunteers and supporters of the GMHS look forward to the new opportunities that its second century will bring, with no doubt in its mission of strengthening the animal-human bond for all inhabitants of Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties.
Please share your grateful hearts this season with the many wonderful animals of the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.
Ellen Thacker
Executive Director, GMHS
