Letter: A proud day at Annapolis
In May, John and I went to a very impressive event—the graduation at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. We had helped Tucker Witt get started with the long application process that can result with a Congressional appointment to the Academy.
We had known Tucker because he rowed on the Gloucester High School crew team with our daughter Elizabeth. When we found out that Tucker dreamed of rowing for the Naval Academy, we were more than happy to get him in front of Congresswoman JoAnn Davis to interview for a Congressional appointment. Tucker had an impeccable high school record. Before we knew it, Tucker was receiving a scholarship to row on the Naval Academy crew team.
Tucker’s immediate family was present. The rest of us were an eclectic group of people, from coaches Tim Ulsaker and Vernon Rowe to Mr. Haley, his old shop teacher.
We were a group of people who influenced Tucker and how he chose his career. The weekend was quite a sendoff. Everybody present was glad to have been included.
