On Saturday, Nov. 13, the Mathews Rotary Club completed the first phase of a project to make Sibley’s General Store completely handicap accessible. Sibley’s, built in 1898, is the home to the Mathews Visitor and Information Center.

The project includes a new ramp, new ADA-compliant door, a walkway through the building into the Visitor Center and signage to designated parking. The entire project is funded by the Mathews Rotary Club, Mathews Community Foundation and the Treakle Foundation.

The Rotary Club’s Community Service Committee, under the guidance of Bob Voth, is a perfect example of what makes Mathews a truly special place. The ramp was completed and used several days later! Because of these fine folks, the building in now accessible to all, residents and visitors alike. And because of the very generous contribution by the Rotary Club, the entire project will soon be completed.
