In a recent Gazette-Journal, it was announced that the Legacy Project from the Library of Virginia is going to be in Gloucester on Dec. 11th. It is extremely important to document any written records from this time period because so much has already been lost.

Most of what is left is held in private citizens’ hands. By digitizing these daybooks/ledgers, diaries, letters, manuscripts, maps, military passes/discharge papers, reminiscences, hand-drawn sketches, photographs, muster rolls, battle reports, dispatches, telegrams, paroles, oaths of allegiance—just to name a few—you will be rebuilding what has been lost.

Personal letters are of particular importance as they hold lots of intimate details not normally shared in reports. The Legacy Project will not keep your documents. They only scan them into a computer and give them right back to you! Gloucester County has a tremendous history! Please share it with your friends and neighbors by participating in this project!
