Jones is the best ‘author’ for the 98th
When I listened to the stump speeches presented by the four candidates running for the position of our retiring Delegate, Harvey Morgan, I pondered what a historical review of Harvey’s years would look like. Harvey will likely reflect on his years in office and could potentially write a book celebrating his highs and lamenting his lows. It caused me to think of what kind of book the four candidates seeking his seat would write when their term(s) have passed (based on their stump speeches).
I read. Some books for pleasure, some for simple instruction, some spiritual, lots of medical journal articles and some books I have to put down after the first chapter for being poorly written. Being a doctor and a small businessman, I find myself reading many books on how to succeed in business. The best business books all state similar requirements to excel beyond others. Hard work: 40 hours is frequently passed somewhere on Wednesday to early Thursday. Sacrifice: Anything worthwhile requires commitment. Ingenuity and creativeness: You have to bring new ideas to the table. Catesby Jones excels at all these virtues.
I know the 98th District needs jobs, quality education, protection of self and family and many other things. When I link what I know about Catesby and what he openly professes at the podium, on his e-mail blasts and by example of his phenomenal business success—I know he will write a great book of success for the 98th District. Catesby is not afraid to "rattle some cages." I’ve always found it interesting that when he was 18 years old and was applying to UVA, he included a 10-page paper extolling the virtues of Ayn Rand’s conservative book "Atlas Shrugged" (recently made into a movie—Google the book). Amazing! He was a young man "thinking conservatively" at that young age and challenging the typically liberal academia as he sought (and received) admission to their university.
He has led a similar personal and business life. He has opened businesses nationally and internationally. He has hired over 100 people in his businesses and indirectly benefits hundreds of others through the sale of his products. He knows how to meet payroll and benefits. He has been hurt by the frequently punishing rules and suffocating regulations placed on business by vote-seeking politicians. I can attest he knows the difference between charity and "stealing" as I have participated with him for seven years in the Peace Frogs swim where the swimmers have received contributions over $100k from you! Catesby supports a system where the individual chooses to donate to a cause instead of being unfairly taxed so frequently unhealthy programs and entitlements-for-votes scenarios can be constructed by our elected officials seeking reelection.
I challenge you to ask who you want to be the future author for the book, "The successful 98th District and State of Virginia." Vote for Catesby Jones on Aug. 23.
