If they can do it to BP, who’s next?
Editor, Gazette-Journal:
In his letter regarding BP (Readers Write, July 15, 2010, "Treatment of BP justified"), Mr. Christo seems not to be concerned that President Obama and his administration—when they finally began to show some interest in the oil spill—placed the blame entirely upon BP from the outset, before any investigation could take place and despite the fact that a governmental safety award was in the works for the specific rig.
To me, though, the most disturbing fact, as a citizen, is that a government which can and will, without due process, exact a "contribution" from an entity—whether foreign, domestic, profitable or unprofitable—can and will do the same to any individual, business or organization, further eroding our rapidly vanishing freedoms and the rule of law.
