He was born in Bena, Va., the youngest son of John Wesley and Virginia Pinkie Brown Belvin.

In l925, the family moved from Bena to Dandy where his father established Belvin’s Boats. Roy attended Dandy Elementary, Yorktown Elementary and graduated from Poquoson High School in 1941.

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1944-1946, serving on the USS Vulcan AR5 and Battleship USS New York as a carpenter’s mate in the fleet repair shop. He retired from Colonial Williamsburg in l984 after 36 years of service as a master carpenter, and millwork shop foreman.

He was a long-time member of Grafton Christian Church, serving as a Deacon Emeritus. For the past four years he was a resident of Colonial Harbor Retirement Home in York County.

Roy loved being on the water, sharing his stories and the history of York County, and genealogy. He loved his family very much, and never met a stranger.
