Joyce’s entire focus in life was caring for her family; most of us go through life as takers but our mother went through life as a giver. She never failed to help anyone in need, whether family, friend or stranger. She had a passion for and never missed an opportunity to go fishing. Someone wisely said, "the measure of a person is one who takes without forgetting and gives without remembering" and she lived by this motto daily.

Survivors include four sons, Ronald Saulman and wife Mary, Wayne Saulman and wife Ginny, Art Hudgins and wife Michelle, Michael Hudgins; sister, Jean Smith; brother, Lorrimer Hogge Jr. and wife Diana; best friend, Betty Ann Sydow and husband Danny; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, from 7-8:30 p.m. Entombment was Tuesday, 11 a.m. on Three Quarter Point Farm, conducted by the Rev. Marion Paul White.
