Ludwell Lewis Pickett, 66, of Gloucester, died peacefully at home with family by his side on Dec. 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

The son of a Navy family, Lud was born in Annapolis, Md., on August 29, 1945, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Naval Academy on June 5, 1968. After completing his service in the U.S. Navy, Lud went on to serve as a DOD Civilian Engineer at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, Va., completing a total of 29 years of service to this nation.
