Miles Franklin Portlock, III, 66, of Greenville, N.C., died June 5, 2013 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Krebs Portlock; his four children, Scot Christman of Fredericksburg, Va., Rebecca Christman of Richmond, Va., Kathryn Barrett of Milton, Fla., and Anne Phelps of Richmond, and his six grandchildren, Alyson, Kathryn and Andrew Christman of Fredericksburg, Jacqueline Barrett of Milton, and Wyatt and Charley Phelps of Richmond. He is also survived by his sister, Victoria Thomas of Luray, Va.
Miles was born on June 29, 1946, in Newport News, Va., to Miles and Jacqueline Portlock. He grew up in Orkney Springs, Va., assisting his family in running their resort hotel, now know as Mont. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Mt. Jackson, Va. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and earned numerous medals. He went on to become a successful private businessman in the freight industry. He retired in 2013 to settle in Greenville.
He was best known for his love of music, of his dogs, of a good drive down a pretty country road, and for his innate ability to spin a fantastic yarn. He will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held at the Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orkney Springs, on June 22, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.
