WILLIAM CAREY BOOKER

Posted on Jan 23, 2013 - 12:48 PM Printer Friendly View

William Carey "Willie" Booker, 100, of Gloucester, our beloved father, peacefully went to his Lord on Jan. 15, 2013 with his daughters at his side in Homestead, Fla.

Willie was a veteran having loyally served in the U.S. Air Force, and was retired from Newton’s Bus Garage.

He enjoyed fishing and never missed an opportunity to go fishing either alone or with his fishing buddies and he was a champion player in shuffleboard. For many years Willie spent a great deal of time in Homestead, Fla., in a resort community, where he made many new friends.

He was a believer of working hard and being fair to everyone. He was, in the true sense of the word, a gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor. He was well respected and very much loved by everyone.

Willie was blessed to have two wives who preceded him in death, Edith Thomas Booker and Frances Robins Booker. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Carey and Beulah Heywood Booker; sisters, Vivian Sears, Lucille West and Geneva Belvin, and son-in-law, William Teagle.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy B. Teagle and Mary Lou Chapman; grandchildren, Orren Chapman, Gregory S. Teagle, Stuart Teagle, Mary Baker, Jennifer Teagle, Karen Rogers and Kristin Gregg; great-grandchildren, Ashlen Jordan, Kimberly Joyne, Danielle and Devin Rogers, Jessica Teagle, Brittany Bird, Emily Wood, Jay Callaway, Collin and Olivia Gregg, Karson Chapman, Sophia Chapman and Dallis Teagle, and great-great-grandchildren, Aydon Bird, Makena Moore and Elayah Holmes.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

In our dad’s memory, contributions may be given to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, P.O. Box 1130, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or to Heartland Hospice, 381 N. Krone Avenue, Suite 207, Miami, Fla. 33030.
