VIOLET ELIZABETH SMITH PAYTON

A funeral for Violet Elizabeth Smith Payton, 92, of Mathews, was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, Mathews. She died May 30, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George G. Smith and Hattie Smith Jones; two sisters, Mary Nesbitt and Grace Johnson, and two brothers, James Smith and George Smith.

Mrs. Payton was educated in the Mathews County Public Schools, and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Hirbry H. Payton Sr.; two children, Hirbry H. Payton Jr. of Mathews, and Pamela Payton of Lorton and Mathews; two sisters, Adelle Bayton and Sarah Foster, both of Mathews, and two grandchildren.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, Hudgins, was in charge.
