REINALDO MORALES-ALAMO

Reinaldo Morales-Alamo, 78, of Hayes, died May 14, 2011 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Rey was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Puerto Rico. He graduated from The University of Puerto Rico and attended the College of William and Mary, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, where he met his wife.

Rey served as a marine scientist for 40 years, retiring in 1998. During his career he was a member of several professional organizations including the National Fisheries Association, National Shellfisheries Association and Atlantic Estuaries Association. As a marine scientist he published many papers on oysters and other shellfish. Rey was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

His love of sports carried over from his high school and college years, where he was especially fond of basketball. Rey was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Conner Morales; son, Reinaldo "Dito" Morales Jr. and wife Melisa; daughter, Maria Morales Johnson and husband Don; grandchildren, Conner Lane Johnson, Roberto Wayne Morales; twin brother, Roberto Morales-Alamo; sister, Daly Martínez de Morales, and a host of nieces and nephews here in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Arthur Wolz Jr. were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
