RACHEL LOUISE HODGES (BROOKS) LEIGH

Rachel Louise Hodges (Brooks) Leigh (affectionately known as "Weezy") of Cobbs Creek in Mathews County, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, in her home surrounded by family.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Nathaniel Leigh; daughter, Janet Hennrietta Esham; son, Spec. 4 Terry Hudgins Brooks; twins, Thomas Gerald and Martha Hennrietta Brooks.

She is survived by daughter, Stormy Heart Romaniello; son, Leslie Herbert Brooks; grandchildren, Dottie Brooks, Frederick Romaniello, Lee Brooks, J. Romaniello, Joseph Romaniello, Terry Ellen Watson, Kenny Brooks, Donna Bailey, Tom Brooks; 12 great-grandchildren; nephews, Jesse Thornton, Horace "Brother" Hodges Jr., Jesse Williams Corbett and Bill "Brother" Hodges.

Born March 8, 1918, Louise was the last living child of the large maritime family of Capt. and Mrs. Jesse T. Hodges. Brothers included Capt. J. Raymond, Seth Richardson, Capt. George Dewey, Capt. Horace Willie, Capt. Horace Leslie, John Thomas, Sheriff Spencer Richardson, Capt. Coleman Hubbard and Capt. James David. Sisters included Mary Elizabeth Hudgins, Alice Rhoda Snow, Hennrietta Hodges and Hilda "Fourteen" Thornton Winder.

Louise was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 83, the Eight and Forty, the Eastern Star and a Gold Star Mother.

Family received guests on Sunday, Aug. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews. Funeral services were also held in the funeral home chapel, Monday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109.
