Posted on Feb 15, 2012 - 01:03 PM Printer Friendly View

Michael Shayne Trombley of Gloucester, passed away on Feb. 10, 2012 at the age of 42.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1969 in Burlington, Vt. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Grace Newton.

A 1989 Tabb High graduate, Mike enlisted as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate in the U.S. Navy. During his Naval service, he found his true calling as a firefighter. He served with the Williamsburg Fire Department for 14 years.

Mike was an avid lover of Civil War history, metal detecting, and all things, fire department. Mike’s greatest love and legacy came into this world on Sept. 26, 2006, when his son Robert "Bobby" Lee Trombley was born.

Mike is survived by his five-year-old son, Bobby; former wife, Staci Young; parents, Richard and Carol Trombley; brother, Patrick and wife Mary-Kay Benish; sister, Melanie and husband Scott Burch; sister, Heather Trombley; brother, Scott and wife Nancy Benish; and sister, Stephanie Hood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, or, as Mike would have referred to them, "curtain climbers and rugrats."

Mike will be remembered for his sense of humor and practical jokes.

A memorial service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a fund that is being set up to benefit Bobby Trombley.
