MICHAEL PATRICK O’CONNOR

Posted on Nov 14, 2012 - 12:28 PM Printer Friendly View

Michael Patrick O’Connor, 61, of Hayes, born March 22, 1951, died Nov. 12, 2012 at his home.

Michael was a native of Oscoda, Mich., and a retired United States Army 1SG with 21 years of service including tours in Vietnam and Germany. He graduated with a B.S. from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

He was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather ("Papa"), always participating with his children and grandchildren in all their activities and was unselfishly dedicated to them.

Michael was an avid model builder and could identify any airplane by sound as well as sight. He enjoyed reading, was a fan of the Detroit Lions, VT Hokies and the CNU Captains. We will miss his quiet strength and gentle caring, and remember him always.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Betty O’Connor, and twin brother, Daniel L. O’Connor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia L. O’Connor; son, Sean P. O’Connor and wife Rebecca; daughter, Jennifer L. Salyers and husband Tom; brother, John T. O’Connor and wife Sherri; sister, Kathleen A. McCarthy; two grandchildren that he dearly loved, James T. Salyers and Samantha L. Salyers.

A Service of Christian Funeral Liturgy conducted by the Rev. James Cowles will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 6262 Main Street, Gloucester.

Interment with military honors will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

In Michael’s memory, contributions may be sent to the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 9, Bena, Va. 23018.
