MARIE HALL WINFREE

Posted on Apr 06, 2011 - 01:45 PM Printer Friendly View

Marie Hall Winfree, 96, of Gloucester, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Walter Reed Convalescent Center in Gloucester.

She was born and raised in Gloucester, and worked at Lamberth’s Lumber Yard for nine years. Then she married and moved to Buckroe Beach where she became known as the "egg lady" because she sold eggs from her parent’s farm in Gloucester. She supplied the local grocers and a long list of private customers who all became her long-term friends.

Following her husband’s death in 1985, she moved back to the farm in Gloucester. She loved all animals, especially cats. She was a devoted daughter, a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all.

She was a long-time member of Bellamy United Methodist Church, as well as the church’s XYZ Club.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson G. Winfree, and her parents, Joe and Lee Hall.

She is survived by her son, Wes Winfree (Madge) of Gloucester; her granddaughters, Jan Chandler (Brian) of New Kent, and Fran Bonniville (Nick) of Gloucester; and her three great-grandsons, Colton, Chase, and Davis.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester. A memorial service will be conducted at 12 noon Friday, April 8, 2011, by the Rev. Kenneth Waclo at the Mausoleum in Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Va.

Memorial donations may be made to Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
