LOUISE CALLIS WALKER

Posted on Sep 14, 2011 - 01:50 PM Printer Friendly View

Louise Callis Walker, age 85, went home to our Lord on Sept. 11, 2011 at Mathews Convalescent Center. A life-long resident of Mathews, she died peacefully after a brief illness.

Louise was born on April 9, 1926, the only child of Marshall and Montrue Callis. She worked at Cobbs Creek Credit Bureau for many years; later in life she was a practical nurse. Caring for others was a natural gift of Louise’s.

"Mom-mom," as she was so fondly called not only by her grandchildren but by many more who knew and loved her, enjoyed cooking, sitting on her porch in her rocking chair recalling and sharing the many wonderful stories of time spent with her family. Her soap operas were one of her favorite pastimes.

She is survived by her son, William H. Walker (Billy) and his wife Katie; daughter, Elizabeth Milby, all of Mathews; grandchildren, Patrick Brooks, Debra Brennan (Dennis), of Mathews, Christian Ross (Samantha) of Pennsylvania, Kim Jenkins of Mathews, and Kevin Johnson of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Jenkins, Evan Brennan and Lauren Johnson, all of Mathews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Walker Jr.; great-grandson, Christopher Hudgins, and son-in-law, Donnie Milby.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, between 7-8:30 p.m. Services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Central United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Suzanne Gibson officiating. Burial followed at Windsor Gardens, Dutton, Va. A reception was held at Central U.M. Church in the Fellowship Hall.

Donations may be made to Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad or Central United Methodist Church.
