LOREEN D. TYREE
Loreen D. Tyree of Gloucester, Va., went peacefully and joyfully to the arms of her Savior and loved ones who went before, early on the afternoon of July 19, 2013. She was 82 years old.
She was born Oct. 18, 1930 to the late Hardy and Lena Duncan in Whiteville, N.C. She grew up a farmer’s daughter on a tobacco farm, married a handsome Navy man named Wilton Tyree in 1947, moved to Virginia in 1959, and worked a number of jobs, including a long period of service as the receptionist at the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News. She also raised three children in Denbigh in the days when it was still known as Warwick County.
She was a member of Petsworth Baptist Church, heading the "Petsworthies" senior citizens’ class with her husband. Together they organized many outings to the gospel concerts they loved so well. She also loved gardening, reading Western novels, and excelled in many needlework crafts. She was generous of spirit and deed, one who loved many and was loved by many in return.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years.
She is survived by her three dearly loved children: daughter, Cheryl Oliphant, and sons, Mitchell Tyree and Michael Tyree; her daughters-in-law, Katherine and Kathleen; six loving grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon White and her husband Bruce, Travis Fisher, Seth Tyree and his wife Gina, Jessica Tyree, Lydia Tyree and her fiancé Brian Clevinger, and Audrey Tyree, and lastly, her faithful canine companion, Coco.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Hollandsworth, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Petsworth Baptist Church. Interment followed at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:30-7 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
The family would like to thank Riverside Health nursing and hospice staff, especially Robin, Lisa, and Rev. Margaret, for all their loving care and kindness to our beloved mother and grandmother.
