Leonard Turner, 74, of Hayes, died Aug. 19, 2011 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Leonard was born in Hickory, N.C., a son of the late Jarvis and Bessie Turner. He moved to the Peninsula in 1958, was a member of Providence Baptist Church, and a retired electrician from Union 1340.

He enjoyed helping his friends and family with any job that needed to be done. He will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Turner, in 2008.

He is survived by sons, Marty Kittrell and wife Cindi, Timmy Turner and wife Terri, Carl Turner and wife Brenda, Greg Turner and wife Kim, Michael Turner and wife Donna; grandchildren, Ryan, Sterling, Johnathan, Megan, Cassie, Stephanie, Madison, Joshua, Bobbie Jean, Kadi and Johnny; great-grandchild, Nathan; sister, Pauline Good, and a host of other family members.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton and the Rev. W. Donald Ambrose were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Providence Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Saturday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
