LAURA E. SINGLETON

Laura E. Singleton of Richmond, Va., departed this life on Sept. 21, 2012 in Richmond.

She was born Laura Katherine Eccleston on Oct. 4, 1915 to the late John Chamberlain and Mary Owens Eccleston in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She spent her early years in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania before moving to Gloucester in 1948. In 1995 she moved to the Masonic Home of Virginia in Richmond.

Laura was a member of Ware Episcopal Church and later, Newington Baptist Church; the Mildred Warner Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star; and the Augustine Warner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired from the V.P.I. Extension Office in 1975 after many years of service.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Elizabeth, Marian, Lucy and Nita, and her husbands, William Alexander, Thomas Turner, Roy Geboe and Dewey Singleton.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Mary T. Hogge of Ruckersville, Va.; son, William A. Lincoln Sr. of Detroit, Mich.; grandchildren, Amy, Tom, Bill, Kenny, Kim and Jon; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Jane Piver were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

In Laura’s memory, contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, P.O. Box 7866, Henrico, Va. 23231.
