JUNIUS ERNEST WARINNER III
Junius Ernest Warinner III, 85, of Gloucester, died at his home March 18, 2011.
Ernie was born Dec. 1, 1925 in Richmond, the eldest son of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Warinner Jr. He attended Hampden-Sydney College, served in the Navy at Duke University as a nurse, and received his B.S. and master’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Marine Science.
During the time he resided in Yorktown, he served on the Board of Supervisors for York County and was an elder at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church. When Ernie moved to Gloucester he was active in many civic affairs, the Gloucester Point Rotary and various appointed commissions in Gloucester. He was very active with his church, First Presbyterian of Gloucester, serving as an elder, and also singing with the men’s chorus.
Ernie loved the water, sailing, hiking and camping. His interest and love for the sea, led him to pursue a career in marine science at VIMS and retiring as Professor Emeritus. Ernie was devoted to his family, a great friend and mentor, and he will truly be missed by everyone.
His parents; brother, Ned Warinner, and sister, Helen Warinner, preceded him in death.
He is survived by wife, Frances W. Warinner; daughter, Mary Warinner and husband Grant Revell; sons, J. Ernest Warinner IV and partner Bill Griggs, Robert S. Warinner; granddaughters, Chesapeake Revell and Torrens Revell; and twin sister, Pauline Wysor.
Memorial service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Nagel will be held 4 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, Gloucester. Inurnment will be private.
