Joseph Bert Matteo, 71, of Gloucester, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. He was born Sept. 12, 1939 in Ogden, Utah. As a teenager the family moved to Walsenburg, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Mark Anthony Rich. His is survived by his wife, Janet Ann Matteo; four children, Genia Marie Rich of Washington, Annette Jean Rich of Virginia, Joseph Bert Matteo Jr. of Washington, Vincent Davide Matteo of Virginia; grandchildren, Elisa Star of Washington, Olivia Rich of Gloucester, Mark Anthony Rich Jr. of Texas, Jonathan Michael Jenkins of Virginia, Olivia Jenkins of Gloucester, Joseph Bert Matteo III of Oregon, and Brittnee Marie of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Payton Marie of Washington, Tyler and Jasmine of Texas, Tah’Naziah, Tyi’myiah and Jemeki; and siblings Gregory, Toni Di-Matteo of Santa Rosa, Cal., and Alberta Akers of Arizona.

His body will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Joseph’s name to Heartland Hospice of Newport News, 757-594-8215.
