JANET RILEE TAVARES

Janet Rilee Tavares, 59, of Gloucester, passed away on Jan. 26, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A graduate of Gloucester High School, she attended Averett College. Janet had been an insurance professional for over 32 years, most recently with Middle Peninsula Insurance Agency. She served clients in Virginia and other Mid-Atlantic states. The insurance industry in Tidewater will miss her.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, C. Fleming and Kathleen Dudley Rilee.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Tilton "Kal" Tavares; daughters, Shauna Cassidy, Tessa Peshke of Purcellville, Va., Malia Tavares of Virginia Beach; sons, Kalani Tavares of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Adam Dulin Tavares of Toronto, Canada.

Janet is also survived by brothers, Cyrus F. Rilee Jr. (Carolyn), Christian "Buddy" Rilee (Mary) and Paul E. Rilee (Susan); a sister, Kay Rilee Ohmberger; as well as grandchildren, Brayden Cassidy, Maile Cassidy, Ashton Peshke, and Carter Peshke; special nieces, Amy C. Rilee (Pauline Sullens) and Amanda Rilee Sayles (Andrew); special nephew, Cyrus "Rus" Rilee (Laurie); grand-nephews, Tommy Rilee and Ryan Sayles, along with numerous other relatives. She will also be missed by her best black lab friend, Kona.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Janet’s life at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, from 3-5 p.m.

Contributions in Janet’s memory may be made to the March of Dimes, 860 Greenbriar Circle, Suite 502, Chesapeake, Va. 23320 or to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, P.O. Box 1130, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Arrangements by Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester Point.
