Jack Joe McKinney, 81, of Hayes, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Bakersville, N.C., and was the son of the late Mack and Love McKinney. He was the retired owner of McKinney Excavating and Construction Co.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Lillian Brooks McKinney; his children, Brenda K. Leiffer and her husband Tommy, Carolyn A. Green and her husband Wayne; Joe Mack McKinney, Wilma McKinney-Maxwell and her husband Peter, and Jackie L. Motley and her husband Ralph; his sister, Mattielee Campbell and her husband Wade; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. A graveside service was held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 2 p.m. in Rosewell Memorial Garden.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, P.O. Box 1130, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, was in charge of arrangements.
