Hilda Marie Soles Belvin, 87, of Hayes, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton R. Belvin Sr.; parents, Eppa and Ada Soles of Mathews; two brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverley J. West and husband Charlie of Gloucester Point; two sons, Milton R. Belvin Jr. and wife Esther of Ware Neck and W. Mrs. Belvin loved her family, neighbors and life knowing Jesus as her savior. Mrs. Belvin grew up on the Soles farm in Mathews County where she and some of her siblings were daffodil pickers and packers.

She worked in Norfolk during World War II, and married Milton R. Belvin Sr. of Gloucester Point in 1944. The two made their home in Gloucester where they raised their three children. She supported her family in every way including driving cleaner delivery vans and in retail sales.

She enjoyed fishing, family vacations and gatherings, and visits from friends and neighbors. She actively supported church activities such as Vacation Bible School, the Woman’s Missionary Union and Sunday School. She was a member and served her Lord at Gloucester Point Baptist Church for 50 years.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Bud Goude will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Burial will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Friday at Hogg Funeral Home.
