Hattie Mildred Carter, 96, formerly of Bridgeport, Conn., peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Lancashire Convalescent Home in Kilmarnock.

A native of Mathews, Hattie was the daughter of the late Edgar and Clara Jones.

Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Carter, as well as her adopted daughter, Wanda Carter.

She is survived by her son, James L. Carter (Charlene) of Mathews; granddaughters; sister-in-law, and several great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Zion Baptist Church, Cardinal. Funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be held in the Jones Family cemetery, Mobjack.
