ELSIE BRATCHER LAYMAN

Elsie "Auntie" Bratcher Layman of Gloucester, originally of Paducah, Ky., passed away on March 21, 2011.

Elsie was born on Oct. 24, 1918 in Grayson County, Ky. She was predeceased by her husband, David C. Layman; her parents, Will and Ella Bratcher; her three sisters, Goldie Bratcher Decker, Cuba Bratcher Kinser, Willa Dean Bratcher Roark, her two brothers, Ray Bratcher and Denver Bratcher; her nephew, Earl Decker, and her niece, Gail Roark Sullivan.

She is survived by her two great-nieces, Laurie Sullivan Hunter (Allen) and Anita Decker Nutt (Randy); her nephew, Terry Sullivan (Shirle); a niece, Anna Decker, her great-nephew, David Decker and his children; two nieces-in-law, Jennie Layman Bird and Nancy Layman Robinson and their children and grandchildren; a nephew-in-law, Ronny Layman (Bobbi) and his children and grandchildren; her great-great-nephew, Jonathan Baker, and two great-great-nieces, Angela Baker and Katie Ann Hunter.

Elsie grew up in Grayson County, Ky., where she met and married her husband, David Layman. David worked for Illinois Central Railroad, so they moved to various places, finally settling in Paducah. After the death of her husband, she relocated to Huntsville, Ala., to be closer to her sister, Willa Dean, and her niece, Gail.

In 2007, she relocated to Gloucester, to be closer to her great-niece, Laurie, and her family.

Elsie’s family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sanders Assisted Living for their loving care. Special thanks and love are given to Jean, Linda, and Pat, who were with Elsie in her final moments.

Elsie was a loving, caring person who loved life, her Lord, and her family. She will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-7 p.m. with funeral services starting at 7 o’clock. Burial will be in the Layman Family Cemetery in Millwood, Ky.

Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.
