EDWIN HOSKINS JOHNSTON JR.

Posted on Jun 01, 2011 - 01:59 PM Printer Friendly View

Edwin Hoskins Johnston Jr., 65, of Hayes, passed away May 27, 2011 at his home.

Edwin was a native of Gloucester and a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church. He attended Gloucester High School and Massanutten Military Academy, Woodstock, Va., where he lettered in baseball at both schools. Edwin retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a Master Shipbuilder Outside Machinist in 2007 after 43 years of service.

He was an avid boater and fisherman, taking his wife on trips up and down the bay and rivers every chance they had. He loved golf, and after retirement, spent much of his time playing and teaching Linda how to play. Edwin took pride in his lawn and flowers, and his roses were his delight. He enjoyed telling stories, especially those that had some meaning to him or others to help make his point, and his friends will surely miss the laughter that ended his stories.

His parents, Edwin H. and Louise Eastwood Johnston, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 46 years, Linda Rilee Johnston, and many loving family members and friends.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Kenneth S. Waclo were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bellamy United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

The family would like to thank Sentara Home Care and Sentara Hospice nurses and aides, especially Robin Garcia, LineMurphy and Judy Williams for the gentle and kind care they provided.

In Edwin’s memory, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Research Center, One Charles Center, 100 North Charles Street, Suite 234, Baltimore, Md. 21201. Please specify for Pancreatic Cancer Research in memory of Edwin H. Johnston Jr. Also, contributions can be made to Bellamy United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
