EDWARD LEE KISER

Edward Lee Kiser,91, of Mathews, died Feb. 9, 2012.

He was born in Portsmouth, Va., but called Mathews home from the age of 14. He was married for 72 years to Norris White Kiser of Mathews who predeceased him Oct. 23, 2011.

He is survived by four daughters, Bette Near (Ray) of Roanoke, Joan Sturdivant (Marc) of Port St. Joe, Fla., Judy Jamison (Russ) of Richmond, Debbie McGrath of Gloucester Point. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Melinda White, Kevin Shaw, Tracy Kersey, Craig Curren, John Jamison, Whitney Chatterjee, Tyler Jamison, and Jennifer McGrath. In addition, he has 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Kiser as he was called is also survived by his sister, Betty Flowers of Georgia, and his sister-in-law, Gloria Wood of Cobbs Creek. He was pre-deceased by his son-in-law, Dallas Shaw; a grandson, Ryan McGrath, and a great-grandson, Nicolas Kersey.

Following his WWII service aboard the USS Bassett in the Pacific Theater, he graduated from apprentice school at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He worked as a production control supervisor at the shipyard until retiring in 1973 after 33 years of service. He attended classes at William and Mary Extension as well as Georgetown University Extension.

After returning to Mathews, he served on the County Board of Supervisors from l976-l980. He was a devoted member of Lower United Methodist Church, and volunteered for many years at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Monday at Lower United Methodist Church in Middlesex followed by an inurnment at H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery in Hudgins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mathews Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109 or Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of the arrangements.
