EDWARD D. WEST

Edward D. "Jimmy" West, 73, of Hayes, died May 15, 2011 at his home.

Jimmy was a commercial waterman working on his boat the "Brenda W" prior to being employed by the State of Virginia. He was a member of the Achilles Masonic Lodge AF&AM 281, and was a past Master. Jimmy was a faithful member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder of the church.

He loved the water and enjoyed his time spent working on the water. Jimmy was committed to his family, and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

His parents, Lambert and Maggie West; sisters, Isabel Lewis, Ruby Emerson and Mamie Coates, and brother, Linwood West, preceded him in death.

He is survived by wife, Brenda E. West; son, William Edward West; daughter, Karen Ward and husband Gary T.; grandchildren, Victoria Ackers, Melissa West, Olivia Ward; sister, Edith Coates; brothers, James T. West, Clarence West, Eugene West, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Kirk W. McCullough and the Rev. Fred Reed were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment with Masonic Rites followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

In memory of Jimmy, contributions may be given to the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 9, Bena, Va. 23018.
