A funeral for Dorothy Jane Washington Brown of Gloucester, was held at noon Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, in the First United Baptist Church, Gloucester. She died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012.

She was born in Piney Swamp on Jan. 9, 1931, to the late John Robert Washington and Martha Ann Graves, and was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert Lee Brown, and her 11 siblings.

Mrs. Brown was a member of First Baptist Church, Ordinary. She retired from the Gloucester County Public School System after 17 years of service as a cafeteria assistant manager.

Survivors include four daughters, Myrna Brown-Granger of Hampton, Audrey Brown Lemon and Velda R. Brown of Gloucester, Minister Marcine Brown Spencer of Newport News; six sons, Willie R. Brown, Robert C. Brown, William S. Brown, retired Ssgt. John M. Brown, all of Gloucester; retired Lt. Herman T. Brown of Palmdale, Calif., State Police Sgt. Lawrence W. Brown of Chesapeake, 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Burial was in Gloucester Field Cemetery.
