DORIS ELIZABETH RILEY

Posted on Oct 26, 2011 - 02:43 PM Printer Friendly View

Doris Elizabeth Riley, 80, went to be with her Lord on Oct. 19, 2011.

Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Tom Riley; son, Bill Riley, and wife Valerie; daughter, Debbie Riley; granddaughters, Andrea Lewis and husband Steve, and Megan Neisler and husband Brian.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Bessie Lewis; older brother, David, and younger brother, Weldon.

Doris was a longtime member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church and was very active in the many areas of the church, including Sunday school teacher, and strong leader of the Woman’s Missionary Union. She had a wonderful way of sharing God’s love to those with whom she came in contact. Doris touched and influenced many young lives and was often adopted as "mom" and "granny" to those she met.

She was a patient, humble, and selfless person who always put others first and had a wonderful knack for providing comfort. Her spoon rolls and chocolate layer cake are legendary among those who knew and loved her.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Walter Reed Hospital for their compassionate care.

A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at Gloucester Point Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, 2676 Hayes Road, Hayes, Va. 23072 or Gloucester Point Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 305, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062.
