CAROL LEE CAMPBELL WILSON
Carol Lee (Campbell) Wilson, 73, of Gloucester (formerly Williamsburg), went to be with Jesus and reunited with her loving husband on March 28, 2013.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph of 57½ years, who passed away Sept. 3, 2012.
She leaves behind four loving children, Ralph Wilson Jr. and daughter-in-law Martha, Diane Wilson, Katherine Wilson Williams, Donald Wilson and daughter-in-law Deborah. She was blessed to have six grandchildren growing up locally, Kimberly Fischer, Adam Wilson and his wife Jennifer, Kaitlin Riley, Alexandra Wilson Chuckney and her husband Mark, Christopher Williams, and Lane Wilson; along with two great-grandchildren.
During her illness and death, she has been surrounded with love from her family, friends and her special neighbors.
Carol was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Jan. 1, 1940 and lived with relatives in Virginia frequently as a child and moved to the area permanently when she was 13. While attending New Kent Public School, she met and soon married Ralph and began her life career of caring for her home, gardens and family.
Anyone who knew her knows of her love for and extensive knowledge of plants, flowers, and horticulture. She was self-taught in most areas of her life and would be considered a true Renaissance woman. By definition, "Having a broad based intellectual interest and is accomplished in areas of both the arts and sciences. A woman who uses her will, courage, panache and tenacity to accomplish anything she sets her mind to." Carol was an accomplished traditional porcelain china painter. This talent came naturally to her and was perfected through years of study and practice in her home studio. Her primary subjects naturally were florals, landscapes and birds but she painted exquisite portraits as well.
Her other interests included walking, bird watching, overnight nature hikes, music and travel. She travelled extensively to Europe to tour gardens, castles and experience cultural diversity. Whether travelling alone or with friends or family, she always enjoyed her nearly annual trips.
Carol’s memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Va. 23188. Those wishing to send online condolences may do so at www.nelsencares.com.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Williamsburg Hospice House, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Va. 23185.
